THE ONLINE APPLICATION
FORM
To apply online, first read the Conditions of Assessment:
Part A) Conditions of Assessment
1. The work submitted for assessment is the
original work of the author/s.
2. Authors are advised to keep copies of their submitted work. Manuscripts Online does not take responsibility for loss of or damage to the submitted work in transit.
3. Work submitted should be typed on A4-size pages, set at 1.5 or double spacing, contain wide margins and an unjustified right margin, and be typed one-side only.
4. Files must be saved as a Microsoft Word Document or in RTF format or in PDF format.
5. Work submitted must be accompanied by a succinct synopsis (no longer than a page).
6. Reports and any written texts produced for an author by assessors and the administrator remain the copyright of Manuscripts Online.
7. Electronic files of submitted work, including backup copies of submitted work generated during administering the service, will be permanently deleted as soon as assessment is completed. All submitted work will be treated in the strictest confidence.
8. Where excerpts of assessed manuscripts appear for public viewing on the Manuscripts Online website, the excerpts remain the copyright of the authors. Authors will not be paid for having their excerpt appear on the website.
9. Manuscripts Online reserves the right to remove any author excerpts or author details (e.g. email address) from its website without consulting authors. Authors can request their excerpts and/or details be removed from the website and Manuscripts Online will remove them as soon as possible.
10. If authors choose to have their contact details included on the website, Manuscripts Online cannot be held responsible for any correspondence the author might attract thereby.
11. Only the whole assessment report may be shown to agents and publishers and other industry professionals; extracts and quotes cannot be used unless accompanied by the whole report.
12. Manuscripts Online is not bound to assess a submitted work and can return it and the enclosed payment without comment.
13. Authors in their dealings with assessors and the administrator must always strive to conduct themselves respectfully and courteously. If behaviour is deemed not to be appropriate, Manuscripts Online reserves the right to cease the interactive element of assessment and provide the author instead with additional written constructive criticism deemed of equal weighting to the interactive element.
14. The time allotted for telephone/internet contact between authors, assessors and the administrator will be strictly observed.
15. Any telephone/internet contact between authors, assessors and the administrator will be initiated by Manuscripts Online.
16. Manuscripts Online pays for the cost of any telephone/internet contact between author and assessor.
17. Manuscripts Online aims to directly address all concerns in the allotted time and within the scope of its service. If an author has any issues unresolved by the end of the assessment process, Manuscripts Online is not bound to enter into further correspondence.
18. The decision as to whether the interaction between author and assessor is conducted via telephone, email or other internet means, is made by Manuscripts Online.
19. Assessors will remain anonymous to authors. Authors are encouraged to remain anonymous to assessors by excluding their identities from their work and including them only in cover material; however, inclusion of author names on submitted work does not exclude the work from assessment.
20. Manuscripts Online is not bound to offer a formal recommendation of publication for the MS; and where it does, a formal recommendation is not a guarantee of publication.
21. To engage the service, authors will pay a fee up front in accordance with the Manuscripts Online fee plan and the Application Form details. The fee, once assessment has commenced, is not refundable in whole or part.
22. For additional or ongoing assessment, the fee and time is to be negotiated with the administrator and paid for in advance.
